The Lovely Birds

By Nova Macknik-Conde, Poetry Ambassador at Rising Poets Community

A leaf drifting on a stream

A ship with an ice-smooth keel

The nightingale glides through the sky

Singing as sweetly as a mother to her child

Breaking the serene silence

Purposeful as a mermaid swimming home

The kingfisher dives into the sparkling lake

More graceful than an underwater ballerina

Her head under her silky wing

Poised like a sleepy dancer

A dove preens her feathers

Perched on my windowsill when I wake
